Microsoft Edge Browser Upgrade
Microsoft has announced the Internet Explorer 11 (IE11) desktop browser will no longer be supported effective June 15, 2022.
In preparation for the expiration of the Internet Explorer 11 browser, Information Systems will be changing all computers’ default internet browser from Internet Explorer 11 to Microsoft Edge and removing the IE11 icon from the desktop.
The IE11 browser is still available on the Windows Start menu (Windows Accessories folder) in case there is an older link that still requires IE11.
Any saved internet favorites in IE11 will need to be converted to the new Edge browser – please follow this Tip Sheet to move your saved favorites from Internet Explorer to Edge.
The GO LIVE date to switch the default browser is March 1, 2022.
Not only is Microsoft Edge a faster, more secure, and more modern browsing experience than Internet Explorer, but it is also able to address a key concern: compatibility for older, legacy websites and applications. Microsoft Edge has Internet Explorer mode (“IE mode”) built-in, so you can access those legacy Internet Explorer-based websites and applications straight from Microsoft Edge.
The Microsoft Edge browser also provides the following key benefits:
- Stronger Privacy.
- Improved Internal Search.
- Better Compatibility.
- Manageability and Security.
- Better Memory Usage.
