The Food & Drug Administration (FDA) and Centers for Disease Control (CDC) recently amended the emergency use authorization (EUA) for Pfizer-BioNTech’s COVID-19 vaccine to be administered as a single booster dose at least six months after completion of the primary two-dose Pfizer-BioNTech series to the following populations, with these guidelines:

  • people 65 years and older and residents in long-term care settings should receive a booster
  • people aged 50–64 years with underlying medical conditions should receive a booster
  • people aged 18–49 years with underlying medical conditions may receive a booster, based on their individual benefits and risks, and
  • people aged 18-64 years who are at increased risk for COVID-19 exposure and transmission because of occupational or institutional setting may receive a booster, based on their individual benefits and risks, which includes healthcare workers.

Eligibility Criteria for TriHealth Team Members & Physicians
Currently, the single booster dose is only available for TriHealth team members and physicians who have completed BOTH doses of the Pfizer vaccine regimen. Following FDA and CDC guidance, you must wait at least six months after receiving your second dose of the Pfizer vaccine to be eligible for this single booster dose.

TriHealth team members and physicians who received the Moderna or Johnson & Johnson (J&J) vaccine are not eligible to receive the booster dose at this time. We will continue to monitor developments with booster doses for Moderna and J&J, and will provide updates to eligibility criteria at that time.

To receive the Pfizer booster dose, team members and physicians can schedule an appointment at a TriHealth vaccine clinic through MyChart, by visiting TriHealth.com/Vaccine or by calling 513-86-COVID. Team member and physicians may also visit a community vaccination site outside of TriHealth offering the Pfizer vaccine (click here for information).

The Pfizer booster dose is not required as a condition of TriHealth employment.

I received the Moderna vaccine (both injections). Can I get the Pfizer Booster if I choose now? Which is the best choice, Pfizer or Moderna for my situation?
