Patient Safety Awareness Week is celebrated this year from March 14 to March 20. We want to acknowledge the many talents and hard work of our Patient Safety team over the last year, playing a vital role in The TriHealth Way of Delivering Care and our commitment to Getting Healthcare Right.
Patient Safety Awareness Week is an annual recognition week intended to encourage everyone to learn more about healthcare safety and inspire continued improvements in safety for patients and team members. As we know from our TriHealth Safety and Reliability training, although there has been real progress made in patient safety over the past two decades, preventable medical errors are still a leading cause of death worldwide.
All of you have been using our Safety and Reliability tools throughout the pandemic and this has made a huge difference in keeping our patients and team members safe. You have huddled, used communication tools for clarity, raised concerns and reported problems (incidents). And most importantly, you have made thousands of small improvements to our system of care to make it safer and more reliable. The result has been a dramatic decrease in our more serious harm events. Our goal is zero, and you are all helping to lead the way.
We all have a role to play in Safety and Reliability, helping us become a High Reliability Organization, Leading the Way to Zero. Now more than ever, as we work to keep our facilities safe and ready during the COVID-19 pandemic, patient safety could not be more critical!
