The American Heart Association released new 2020 Guidelines for Basic Life Support (BLS) certification on 10/21/2020. The HeartCode Complete course has been updated to a new edition delivering consistent, quality resuscitation training at the learner’s own pace using cutting-edge science. All healthcare providers are at different stages in resuscitation knowledge, and the training accommodates and adjusts to the varying degrees of competence of each learner. The program combines comprehensive online learning with hands-on skills practice and testing that is consistent across the organization, ensuring a safe and reliable response when we respond to a patient emergency.
Here's what we’ve heard from you since launching the new and improved program January 25, 2021 …
- “The program was much easier to navigate than the old version.”
- “I liked this much better than before.”
- “I’ve been CPR certified for years and it was nice to have my experience help me to get through the program quicker.”
- “You certainly can’t pass without knowing the information.”
What’s the same?
- Assignments appear in Learn accounts on the 1st day of a team member’s birth month, every 2 years.
- Learners still access the assignment in their Learn account.
- Learners still have their birth month plus a 1-month grace period to complete the assignment.
- Learners can continue to complete skills independently – the HeartCode skills lab at Bethesda North and Good Samaritan are open 24/7.
- If you have an injury or physical limitations or will be going on Leave of Absence (LOA) during the time your assignment is due, call Corporate Clinical Education at 513 569 6055 PRIOR to clicking on or opening the assignment. Note: If you open an assignment that is not needed TriHealth will be charged for the license and is unable to assign it to another team member.
- If you think an assignment was given to you by mistake, DO NOT click on or open the assignment. Instead, call Corporate Clinical Education at 513 569 6055 or email us at clinical_education@trihealth.com.
What has changed?
- The new HeartCode Complete uses an adaptive algorithm – as you work through the program, it uses your assessment and your answers to adapt the program to your skill level. Please pay attention to the information about adaptive learning programs included at the beginning of your assignment.
- This type of learning ensures program mastery – the program will move you forward to the next module when you master the current one. This type of learning improves competence and retention which is critical in a situation where you need to use CPR knowledge and skills.
- The entire program (online and skills) is assigned as one program. You will see your completion in Learn once the online and the skills are completed.
- No more eSimulation activities – instead, assessment activities are scattered throughout the program.
- Detailed debriefing is given after each online learning module to help reinforce the material.
- There is ALL NEW equipment in the HeartCode Skills labs.
- If you would like assistance from an instructor when completing your hands-on skills, you can now sign up up for an appointment in Learn. Go to the catalog and search “heartcode” and enroll in one of the HeartCode open lab sessions.
What tips do we have?
- Always select the “in-hospital” option when you begin your skills session in the HeartCode Skills Lab.
- If you see the below message, it means you need to go to the HeartCode Skills Lab to complete the hands-on portion of the assignment.
- If you attempt skills for more than 15 -30 minutes and are not successful do not continue; take a break and come back to complete skills after at least a 15-minute rest.
- Assignments should not be completed when you are on a LOA or Modified Duty. Your assignment can be postponed until you are released to full duty if you have not accessed it yet. Please call or email Corporate Clinical Education about your assignment before accessing the assignment if you are on LOA or Modified Duty.
