TriHealth Bridge

April 20, 2021

TriHealth’s commitment to growing, developing and advancing the careers of our own people has been ingrained into our culture through the TriHealth Way over the course of the past five years, providing us a strong and talented pipeline to help fill key positions and lead our teams. We most recently witnessed the TriHealth Way in action with Jamie Easterling’s appointment to serve as President and Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Bethesda North Hospital. And today, it is thrilling to share a succession of internal leadership promotions and appointments in the Good Samaritan region that further highlight the growing talent we have within the walls of TriHealth.

Kelvin Hanger Appointed President of Good Samaritan Hospital: Kelvin Hanger, currently President and COO of Good Samaritan Hospital at Evendale (formerly TriHealth Evendale Hospital), has been selected to serve as the next President and COO of Good Samaritan Hospital. He assumes this role following Jamie Easterling’s recently announced move to lead Bethesda North Hospital. With over three decades of healthcare leadership and operations experience, Kelvin helped shepherd the transition of Evendale Medical Center to TriHealth in 2013, and again in 2020 as Evendale became a part of Good Samaritan Hospital. Kelvin’s proven ability to lead, communicate and forge strong relationships with his team members and physicians has resulted in consistent top decile patient satisfaction scores - consistently leading the way within TriHealth and the region - as well as high levels of engagement with team members and physicians. During his eight years leading Evendale Hospital, his responsibilities have expanded to also include executive leadership of the Endoscopy Center North, the Hand Surgery Center, and Surgery Center Anderson along with perioperative operations and the orthopedic service line. Kelvin has helped shape the strategic direction and development in Evendale Hospital, and in the process has positioned it as one of the top performing hospitals in Greater Cincinnati.

Jeremiah Kirkland Appointed President for Good Samaritan Hospital at Evendale: With Kelvin’s appointment to Good Samaritan Hospital, a selection process was undertaken which resulted in the appointment of Jeremiah Kirkland to lead Good Samaritan Hospital at Evendale as the next President & COO. Jeremiah currently serves as Executive Director for Women’s Service Line and Practice Operations, Senior Operations Leader for Bethesda North, and Interim Chief Diversity Officer. Jeremiah joined TriHealth in 2018 and in this brief time he has made a lasting impression on our system, patients and community. In addition to recruiting over 20 providers in the Women’s Service Line, he successfully led development of a landmark joint venture between TriHealth and Cincinnati Children’s Hospital to create the nationally recognized and destination Fetal Medicine and Surgery Program. He oversaw the development of TriHealth’s first fully functioning clinical app for pregnant patients and renegotiated the high-risk pregnancy provider contract with the St. Elizabeth Health system. Prior to joining TriHealth, Jeremiah was a senior leader at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, NY, where he led strategic planning and operations management for clinic and surgical/procedural areas, while also directing numerous service lines including GI & Hepatology, Women’s and Primary Care. Jeremiah’s proven and impactful leadership of TriHealth’s Women’s Service line coupled with his 15 years of senior leadership and healthcare operations experience in Rochester health systems made him the consensus selection for this role and position him for a seamless transition in leading Evendale Hospital. Jeremiah will continue to serve as Executive Director for Women’s Services as well as Interim Chief Diversity Officer. A search process is underway internally to consider candidates and select the right individual to fill the role for Chief Diversity Officer and Director for the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion office.

Patrick Wright Appointed Vice President of Operations for Good Samaritan Hospital: Patrick Wright has been appointed Vice President of Hospital Operations for Good Samaritan Hospital and will oversee an expanded list of key clinical departments as well as increased system oversight within the hospital, including Good Sam’s five-year, $140 million Master Facility Plan. Patrick will continue to serve as System Director of Laboratory Operations. Under his leadership, Patrick’s lab teams have helped guide TriHealth’s transition to a laboratory joint venture model with St. Elizabeth, upgraded and standardized laboratory instrumentation across the system, and partnered with providers to develop a new testing approach balancing cost with fast, accurate results. Patrick was instrumental in ramping up TriHealth’s COVID testing capabilities and his team’s work has significantly improved COVID testing turnaround times. Since joining TriHealth in 2013, Patrick’s collaborative approach to leadership has driven his success and will continue to serve him in his new role. To align the operations support structure of both of our flagship hospitals, an active comprehensive search process to identify and consider candidates for the role of Vice President of Hospital Operations for Bethesda North Hospital will begin in the coming weeks.

Tonya Hurst Appointed Director of Perinatal Programs: To allow Jeremiah to devote the necessary time and energy to successfully lead Evendale as its next president, Tonya Hurst, Manager of Communications and Public Relations, will take on an expanded role of Director of Perinatal Programs, a role previously held by Mary Burton. She will also serve as Director of System Communications. Tonya will report directly to Jeremiah and will be responsible for Obstetric care/case management, social work, lactation consulting and community collaboration for our Ob/Gyn patients. She will also partner Ob/Gyn Center leaders at Good Sam and Bethesda North to help advance our population health work. Tonya’s healthcare career began as a surgical tech in labor and delivery, later progressing to ortho and neuro for a decade before moving into healthcare communications and leadership. Since joining TriHealth in 2016, Tonya has worked alongside our senior leaders to develop and implement the TriHealth Way, while partnering with system stakeholders to launch and maintain communication and engagement initiatives. We are confident that Tonya’s experience in women’s services, healthcare operations and her willingness to partner with team members, leaders and physicians will help her be successful in her new role.

With each of these well-deserved promotions, we have been intentional in seeking out qualified individuals from within our highly talented TriHealth leadership ranks to further expand upon existing leadership roles and providing a continued focus on our commitment to diversity and inclusion. These leaders have each excelled at achieving exceptional outcomes for the hospitals, service lines, and departments they lead while embodying a true servant leader mindset in engaging with and leading their teams. Further, their appointments reinforce TriHealth’s commitment to and investment in advancing our diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) work by increasing diversity within our leadership to better reflect and support the teams we lead and the patients we serve.

Please join us in congratulating Kelvin, Jeremiah, Patrick and Tonya, as they each take on their respective new and critical roles in leading TriHealth and the Good Samaritan region.
