TriHealth Bridge

July 17, 2020

COVID-19 testing is quickly becoming one of the most critical services TriHealth provides to our patients and community. As we continue to learn how to manage and co-exist with COVID-19, TriHealth plans to move forward with testing as a long-term population health strategy to Get Healthcare Right. Please continue reading below for details on this new strategic approach to COVID-19 testing at TriHealth.

This information will also be communicated to patients via MyChart, pre-op planning and targeted text messaging, and can be accessed at TriHealth.com/COVID19Testing

TriHealth COVID-19 Testing Criteria
In addition to processing our own COVID-19 tests, TriHealth works with several outside lab partners to help us manage the testing required for us to deliver on our promise to care for the health of our population. Because testing capacity is so severely limited at this time, we will continue to require the following criteria to receive a test at TriHealth:

  1. Physician order;
  2. Symptomatic (asymptomatic patients will be tested as part of our increased safety protocol for pre-surgical screening, or if they have a physician order).

The Governor’s ongoing promise that any Ohioan may receive a test free of charge is a state-run program of which TriHealth is not a participant. That special program is accessible only through the state-sponsored testing sites listed here

COVID-19 Testing Procedures

Beginning Monday, July 20, 2020, TriHealth will discontinue all outdoor testing tents, and transition to a more permanent and sustainable testing model that utilizes our indoor patient care facilities. PCP and other provider offices are prepared to collect COVID-19 specimens. TriHealth outpatient labs have been opened as collection sites and three new testing sites - Evendale, BNOI and Good Sam Glenway - have been set up to accommodate pre-op volume.

  • Pre-Op testing for surgery:
    • If ordered by a TPP physician, testing may be performed at any of our TPP PCP offices. Patient should be instructed to call their PCP’s office to schedule this collection.
    • In addition to TPP PCP offices, pre-op testing for surgery/procedures should be directed to BNOI, Glenway, or Evendale. The table with those locations is below.
    • The other 11 lab locations will be available for walk-in testing, but patients may experience longer wait times at these locations. The table with those locations is also below.

  • Pre-Op testing for endoscopy:
    • Endoscopy patients should be directed to BNOI, Glenway, or Evendale. The table with those locations is below
    • The other 11 lab locations will be available for walk-in testing, but patients may experience longer wait times at these locations. The table with those locations is also below.

  • Symptomatic patients seeking evaluation at a care location:
    • Patients may schedule an appointment with their PCP;
    • Or go to a TriHealth Priority Care, TriHealth Emergency Department or TriHealth Clinic at Walgreens.
    • Note that all of these options will result in the patient being charged for a full visit at the current visit rate for each respective facility, and there is no “COVID-19 test only” service available at TriHealth facilities.

  • Asymptomatic patients, with the exception of patients tested through our community program in Lincoln Heights:
    • Asymptomatic patients will not be tested unless they have a physician order.

Our Commitment to Safety
Testing is an essential strategy to slow the spread of COVID-19, but like our many other limited and finite resources, TriHealth must remain conservative in our use of testing so we can preserve supplies for the future. This has always been a delicate balance to maintain, and we are committed to evaluating our processes and strategy regularly so we can continue providing safe care and serving our community.

The safety of our team members, physicians and volunteers remains our top priority, and this new permanent testing protocol will provide a sustainable practice that ensures TriHealth is delivering the safest care possible while protecting ourselves from contracting the virus. Ongoing messaging and education on the importance of masking, social distancing and handwashing will help alleviate the strain on testing needs, and that these four crucial strategies will work together to ultimately stop the spread of COVID-19.

Thank you for your ongoing commitment and support to help ensure TriHealth’s COVID-19 response is safe, effective and reliable for those we serve!
