The holidays are officially over. It's time to get back on the good foot. Backed by a six-piece funk band, Dedrick Weathersby will tell you the story of the Godfather of Soul, James Brown. "Remembering James: The Life and Music of James Brown" makes its regional debut on February 1, 2020. It spans nearly two decades of what would become a monumental career. See how major historical events shaped this musical icon's work.

As 2020 gets underway, the region's winter arts season begins, full of rich experiences that everyone can enjoy. Here are just a few suggestions for your next few weeks — all with exclusive deals for ArtsWave Pass members. Join here if you haven't already!

If you're looking for another reason to celebrate now that we've rung in the new year, we're right there with you. Join the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra for their 125th anniversary concert, featuring a new commissioned work, the "return" of George Gershwin and more. Head to Music Hall January 18 and 19 if you want to be there for the CSO's birthday party.

For fans of classical music north of the 275 loop, a trip downtown sometimes feels like a bit too much. Not to worry: the Fitton Center for Creative Arts can fill that need with their Fitton Showstoppers concert series. On February 1, the Butler Philharmonic Orchestra will perform a brand new composition alongside live visual artists. With your discounted membership to the Fitton, you also get discounted admission to the concert!

Maybe you want to stick a little closer to home. Maybe you're more of a fan of Duke Ellington, Langston Hughes and other cats from the Harlem Renaissance. How about while you're at it, you find out what happened when the euphoria of the Harlem Renaissance gave way to the harshness of the Great Depression? See it in "Blues for an Alabama Sky" at Falcon Theatre, running from January 24 to February 8.

Keep using your ArtsWave Pass and you could receive access to FREE TICKETS from the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, The Carnegie, Know Theatre of Cincinnati and the Young Professionals' Choral Collective. For more information about ArtsWave Pass, click here.

In November, ArtsWave announced the first four performances in a new African American arts series, Flow. First up on the Flow Schedule? The internationally acclaimed Dayton Contemporary Dance Company (DCDC) kicks off the series on February 21-22 at the Aronoff’s Jarson-Kaplan Theater.

"Retro/ACTIVE" features masterworks from the company's 51st season while premiering a brand new piece. Witness these world-renowned performers as they address topics ranging from womanhood to the Tuskegee Airmen and the endurance of those who have struggled for freedom. Get your tickets here!
