TriHealth Bridge

TriHealth is launching an important initiative to help keep our patients safe and ensure an excellent patient experience. We all have an important role in making this happen. The No Pass Zone has been initiated at many healthcare organizations and now at TriHealth because it has been proven to make a difference in patient experience and patient safety. Plus, it’s the right thing to do for our patients.

No Pass Zone means no hospital-based team member should pass a patient room where a call light or alarm is sounding without going in to see what they can do to assist. Before entering a room, there are a few things you will want to understand. First, there are things all team members can do when entering the room, including turning a light off or on for the patient, assisting the patient with reaching their phone or getting the appropriate caregiver who can help. There are also things only nursing staff should do for the patient, for example: manage an IV and/or infusion pump, offer pain relief, raise or lower the head of the bed, assist patients with eating and drinking, or turn off any alarms.

It is important for all team members to learn more about No Pass Zone and how you can ensure our patients have an excellent and safe patient experience.  To do so:

Check your TriHealth Learn assignments to see if the WBT19: No Pass Zone has been assigned to you. If this e-learn is not listed under your assignments, the WBT19: No Pass Zone can be found under Connections > “What’s New.”  Team members can access and enroll in the course from the Connections link. NOTE: This course was included in the Fall Nursing Quarterly Packet – assigned to all inpatient RNs and PCAs (10/15-11/30/2019). You do not need to complete this training again if you have already completed the module.

At the completion of this course, the team members will be able to:

    • Define "No Pass Zone"
    • Explain who is responsible for adhering to the "No Pass Zone" guidelines
    • List tasks that may be completed by anyone to increase patient safety

Review the No Pass Zone information with your leader and team members at an upcoming team meeting or huddle.

When we all work together, we WILL improve our patients’ experience by responding quickly and effectively to their needs. We WILL do this by demonstrating our truly caring and responsive ALWAYS behaviors towards patients and committing to never pass a room where the call light or alarm is sounding or the patient appears to need assistance without asking how we can help.

I was recently had surgery at Bethesda North and had to stay overnight. The entire nursing staff made my stay comfortable and were always sure to check on any needs of mine.

I believe the "No Pass Zone" will have an impact on potential falls/incidents and over all customer service.
